As a busy mom, I often just need one really great product that can do it all, and Paw Paw Ointment is definitely one of those multitasking wonders that can be used more than just a lip balm.
By Irene Falcone
A good multitasking product is something you can never live without, and paw paw (also known as papaya) ointment is definitely one of my personal necessities. I have a tube of PURE Papaya Skin Food in my handbag and in my car. I also have a large tub of the PURE Papaya Care Ointment with Calendula at home! While we all know what an amazing lip balm and lipstick primer this is, it is so much more than that. Before I dive into some of my favorite alternative methods of using Paw Paw, let’s talk about what it is and why I love this multitasking ointment in my natural beauty routine.
What is Paw Paw?
Paw Paw, also known as papaya, is a nutritious fruit that is full of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. It’s also high in calcium and high in potassium, magnesium, and iron.
Paw Paw benefits
All of these amazing benefits mean that when used in beauty products, Paw Paw can help with a number of skin problems. Available in lotions, ointments, and ointments, Paw Paw is a wonderful multitasking product to keep in your bathroom cabinet, handbag, or desk. Paw Paw is high in antioxidants, amino acids, and nutrient-rich. It is high in vitamins A, C, and E and has soothing, anti-inflammatory properties. It’s perfect for topical use for soothing a variety of skin conditions and providing permanent relief from irritation.
Organic & natural paw paw ointments
Did you know that the popular paw paw ointment is often made from petroleum jelly (the by-product of petroleum)? Natural Paw Paw ointments are completely petrochemical-free and have a much higher concentration of Paw Paw in their formula. Now that there are so many natural Paw Paw products out there, it is so easy to find an organic alternative that is full of beneficial ingredients and that will work for you.
Why should you switch to natural paw paw ointments?
The main difference between regular and natural Paw Paw ointments is the inclusion of petroleum jelly. Some of the most popular Paw Paw ointments on our pharmacy shelves contain a very large amount of petroleum jelly. Petrolatum is a by-product of the oil industry and can contain petrolatum, mineral oil, liquid paraffin, or paraffin oil. Petroleum jelly also forms a barrier on the skin, which means that when applied to your lips, it prevents moisture from seeping in and can clog the pores on your skin. Paw Paw ointment used
Using Paw Paw ointment for chapped lips and dry patches of skin may be the most common use for this multitasking ointment. If you suffer from chapped lips or dry skin on areas like your elbows, knees, or ankles, applying a Paw Paw ointment can help soften those particularly rough areas with ease. Precisely for this reason, this is a must for me in winter! But the list of all the benefits and uses of natural Paw Paw ointment doesn’t stop here – here are 11 of my favorite alternative ways to use Paw Paw:
1. Hand, nail and cuticle cream
Paw Paw Ointment is a beautifully rich hand cream that soothes overworked hands and dry, flaky skin. It’s also amazing for keeping nails and cuticles soft and strong, and treating cracks and tears. I love the delicious smelling Suvana Certified Organic Paw Paw Ointment, which is made with Paw Paw and honey for a rich and rejuvenating topical ointment. Because it’s so rich, I prefer to use it overnight as a restorative treatment so that I lather it over my hands just before bed. For daytime use, I will often apply it to my nails and cuticles as a moisturizing and strengthening treatment, or when my hands feel a little dry in cold weather.
2. Eyebrow gel
It might not be one of the more obvious uses, but Paw Paw is great for keeping eyebrows in place! If you run out of brow gel or you are no longer with you on the go, Paw Paw is a great alternative as it holds the strands in place while nourishing the hair – the moisturizing ingredients in PURE papaya ointments such as shea butter, macadamia oil and vitamin E can actually help stimulate healthy hair growth for fuller brows. It also makes a gorgeous wet highlighter – just dab on the cheekbones and forehead bones for a healthy glow.
3. Overnight face mask
The consistency of this ointment is really suitable for a facial treatment thanks to the skin-filling properties of shea butter, jojoba oil and vitamin E. That’s why I like to shovel something straight out of the tub, wear it as a mask and then let it work its magic overnight! Paw Paw is also a great natural way to lighten skin.
4. Sports cream
This ointment is perfect for avid surfers and runners and can be used as a protective cream to prevent chafing under the wetsuit or to relieve chafing between the thighs after training. Skin care that is indispensable for athletes and aspiring athletes of all kinds. Keep a tube at the gym or in your gym bag to treat chafing, irritation, and itching for soothing relief. The PURE Papaya Care Ointment with Calendula Tub is a perfect multitasker and a wonderful product that offers the benefits of the traditional Paw Paw ointment with the benefits of the calendula to protect and soothe the skin.
5. Hair treatment
As a toxin-free alternative to traditional hair masks, you can use PURE Papaya Ointment in two different ways to reap the benefits of hair care. On damp, freshly washed hair, work a pea-sized amount of papaya ointment down the lengths to nourish split ends, or work through dry hair and let it smooth out any frizz. You can even use it as an overnight treatment and wash off the morning.
6. Tattooing or removal after tattooing
When you’ve got a tattoo applied or removed, you’ve been given some pretty strict instructions on what to and can’t apply to your skin in the following days. Papaya ointment is great for broken and chapped skin that needs some intense moisture, and it doesn’t contain any of the nasty ingredients that can irritate delicate, sensitive skin after intense laser treatments.
7. Diaper rash
Papaya ointment acts as a gentle yet highly effective protective cream to protect and treat the sensitive skin of the little ones from diaper rash, dryness and irritation. It can be used on mild rashes and is suitable for the most sensitive skin types. This nourishing and soothing, nourishing ointment protects the skin from prolonged periods of moisture in order to avoid diaper rash, and already has a calming and restorative effect on areas that have already been affected. It’s also mild enough to handle the cradle cap – massage a small amount into the baby’s scalp, leave it on overnight, then gently wash off the next day with a soft brush to remove any buildup. The Little Innoscents Organic Paw Paw Balm is perfect for children and mothers and contains sunflower oil and shea butter as well as cherry coconut extract for a soothing and enriching moisturizing balm that is safe for sensitive young skin and nursing mothers. This petroleum-free balm can be used on newborns and children on dry, damaged or irritated skin.
8. Eye cream
The eye area is the most sensitive area on our face, so it must be treated with special care. I love using Paw Paw Ointment as an eye cream because it feels so calming, gentle and cool under the eyes and its moisturizing properties really nourish, tighten and plump the fine skin that can be so prone to dehydration and tension.
9. After shaving balm
Paw Paw is ideal as a moisturizer for sensitive skin after shaving because of its deeply soothing and restful properties. Moisturizing and soothing, it can be applied to legs or forearms after shaving to minimize irritation and itching, soothe inflamed skin, and prevent razor burn. It’s also great as a men’s after-shave balm to keep the cheeks and chin soft, supple, and hydrated after shaving.
10. Essential oil base
Essential oils are highly concentrated and usually need to be diluted in a carrier oil before they can be applied directly to the skin. One of my all-time favorite uses for Paw Paw Ointment is the base for applying essential oils to the skin as it moisturizes and protects the skin at the same time! Just mix a few drops of your favorite oils with a pinch of Paw Paw to create your own fragrant moisturizer or perfume. Apply the mixture to your pulse points for extra fragrance power.
11. Paw Paw ointment for cuts, scratches and burns
The enzymes in Paw Paw are known to help relieve topical skin inflammation and minor burns. If you have minor cuts, scratches, or wind burns, applying Paw Paw ointment to these areas can bring soothing relief.
